William Greene PEACOCK

William Greene PEACOCK was born in 1842 in Washington Co GA. He enlisted 10 May 1861 as a private in the Gulf State Guards, 2nd Florida Company F, CSA Infantry from Jackson County, Florida. He was promoted to Corporal at the Battle of Seven Pines, VA. He was captured 17 September 1862 at Sharpsburg, MD, and believed to have been held in Fort Delaware prison. On 6 October 1862 he was sent for exchange to Aikens Landing, VA. He was carried on the muster roll but was absent between May-Aug 1863. He was dropped from the rolls on 31 August 1863. He is believed to have died before Aug 1863 in Confederate POW Camp, Aikens Landing, VA, while he was awaiting exchange to the Confederacy. His burial site is unknown but to God. He is believed to be buried in the New Jersey National Cemetery for unknown Confederates or may have been buried at sea by the Union Navy.
