Affidavit of family history of Cynthia Peacock Bryant done 16 August 1977
FAMILY HISTORY AFFIDAVIT
STATE OF MISSISSIPPI
COUNTY OF COVINGTON
Personally appeared before me, the undersigned authority, in and for said County and State, the within names W. J. Bryant, who after having been by me first duly sworn, upon his oath, states:
That affiant herein, W. J. Bryant, having been a life long resident of said County, and being of ninety and plus years, is of sound mind and very familiar with the old families of said County. The affiant states upon his oath that this history has been handed down through generation and is believed and accepted by affiant as true. That affiant recalls and states the following history of his family.
That Miss Cynthia Peacock, of German descent, a daughter of Levi peacock, born on the Rhine River, was married first to John Lewis Bryant. That by Mr. Bryant, Cynthia had the following children: Isabelle, Mary, Willis, Jesse, Allen, and Levi.
That Isabelle married Samuel Lowery; that Mary married William; that Willis married a Miss Loveless; that Jesse married Sophia Ann Sanford, and owned the land from Lux to Sanford in said County; that Allen married Polly Campbell; and, that Levi married Sarah Grantham. Affiant further states that John Lewis Bryant was born in South Carolina, and was killed by Indians while moving his family to Mississippi.
That Mrs. Cynthia (Peacock) Bryant married second to Charles Phillips, and had three daughters, namely: Permelia, Rebecca, and Piety. That Permelia married Augustus W. Sheppard; that Rebecca married first Red Carter, married second Red Loveless, and married third John D. Sanford; and, that Piety married Jeremiah Leggett. Affiant further states that among the children of Jeremiah and Piety Leggett was one Jeremiah who married Anna Jane Haigler.
The affiant herein also states upon his oath that Mrs.Cynthia (Peacock) Phillips died in said County and is buried in the Jesse Bryant Cemetery, a few miles south of Sanford in said County, and that a marker is erected to her grave. Affiant further states that Charles Phillips died in said County and is buried in an unmarked grave on the Bowie River in said County, completely abandoned from civilization.
