Peacock Paths
WILLIAM THE DRUGGIST
Not one of the Commoners, or even one of the Southern Peacocks, but I decided to try to help anyway. It began, as it usually does, with a letter to Cousin Don.
Dear M. Don,
I am searching for any genealogical information on William Peacock, and I know that in the year of 1880 he was newly married and residing in a boarding house in Atlanta, Georgia with his wife, and that William Peacock was by profession a druggist. Then in the year of 1900, William Peacock and his wife, and two daughters were residing in Atchison County, Kansas.
Also, I know that circa 1907 a daughter of William Peacock, Juanita Peacock, became the bride of Melvin Reginold Amerman and they were the parents of three children, two sons, Reginold, who was called “Reggie” and he was born circa 1908, and Berkeley, and a daughter, Louise, who was born in 1914 and all three children were born in the State of Kansas. Louise Amerman became the wife of Val Jaegar and the mother of three sons, Eric, Robert, and Bruce, any genealogical information would be greatly appreciated, thank you very much,
- Kitty

I think that the Peacock family that I am searching for will have a family conncection to the Barrymore family of New York. I will keep looking and I know that one day I will find the genealogical information that I want. The odd thing, I live in New Iberia, La. and my family knew the Amerman family of Melvin and Juanita Amerman. Melvin R. Amerman died here in New Iberia, La. in the mid 1950’s and Juanita Peacock Amerman died around 1964 in St. Louis, Missouri while spending the winter at her daughter’s.
I think I’ve found William’s family. There was an Andrew Peacock, born in Ireland about 1825, whose wife Mary (ca. 1828) was also born in Ireland. They lived in Glens Falls, Warren County, New York for a few years, but moved to Steuben, Marshall County, Illinois and then to Loda, Iroquios County, Children were George (ca, 1848, NY), Mary (ca, 1854, NY), William (ca, 1857), John (ca, 1860), James (ca. 1862), Margret (ca, 1869) and Martha (ca. 1873). Andrew worked as a cooper and a farmer at various times.
Why this William Peacock moved to Atlanta is a mystery. In the 1880 census, he and his father are both shown as born in Georgia, but with apparent corrections of Illinois and England then written in. In the 1900 census, he gives his own birthplace and those of both his parents as Illinois.
